The Fat Controller welcomes you to Coalport Station!

Book your next family adventure and surprise your children with a stay in their own railway carriage. The old train station is situated in the picturesque surroundings of the Ironbridge Gorge (UNESCO World Heritage Site) overlooking the River Severn at Coalport and located on the Severn Valley Way. Let the kids race round our specially constructed woodland walk and have fun spotting the woodland birds and animals in the grounds. They may even hear the owls talk to each other at night.

We have plenty of attractions for families including ten local Ironbridge Gorge museums. Among them is a chance to go back to the Victorian era. At Blists Hill you can exchange your cash for shillings to spend it in the old shops, make a memory and dress up for a family photo and watch traditional skills being demonstrated. Not far away is RAF Cosford, a treat for young plane enthusiasts with over 70 planes, special exhibitions, and rare aircraft.

Booking a day out on the Severn Valley Steam Railway is a must for all Thomas fans – check their site for special events. Other family days include; West Midland safari park, working farms and castles. Only a fifteen minute drive away is Telford Town Park which sports many activities for youngsters which are all free and well worth a visit.

There are some fantastic opportunities for families to walk and cycle in the local area. On our doorstep is the Mercian way (Cycle route 45), taking you to either Ironbridge or Bridgnorth, and the Silkin Way (Cycle route 55) towards either Ironbridge or Telford. Don’t forget to check out our picturesque local towns of Much Wenlock and Bridgnorth, the latter has a Low and High Town with a Funicular Cliff Railway running between them and the start of the Severn Valley Railway. Further afield there is plenty to do in the county towns of Shrewsbury and Ludlow.
